Gabriel Rossman's dissertation, "The Effects of Ownership Concentration on Media Content," synthesizes production of culture and political economy approaches to mass media to provide empirical analysis to the much-discussed topic. The chapters span several aspects of content and media but are united by a focus on assessing ownership's role and methods that avoid the subjective notion of partisan valence. Specific chapters include: Movie reviews in studio-owned publications, song diversity in the playlists of radio chains, and the Dixie Chicks radio boycott. He also works for the Center on other projects grounded in the production of culture approach, such as the role of organizational form and resources on theater innovation.
